崇祯二年中秋后一日，余道镇江往兖。日晡，至北固，舣舟江口。月光如雪，江山如画。夜深人静，独步江岸，忽闻笛声幽远，自水天相接处传来。心神俱醉，遂乘一叶扁舟，径入江心。

时值秋高气爽，风清月朗，江波不兴。四顾无人，惟见月色洒满江面，银光闪烁，恍若置身仙境。忽忆古人云：“江上之清风，与山间之明月，耳得之而为声，目遇之而成色。”此言信然。
