The Monkeys and the Moon
One quiet night, the moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver light. In the forest, a group of monkeys were playing on the trees. They saw the bright moon reflected in the water and became very curious.
"Wow! What is that?" one monkey shouted, pointing at the water.
"That's the moon!" another monkey exclaimed excitedly. "Can we also bring it up from the water?"
So the monkeys decided to try to catch the moon from the water. One by one, they hung upside down from the trees, trying to reach the "moon" with their paws. But every time they got close to the surface, the moon in the water disappeared, as if it had been blown away by the wind.
"Why is it always hiding?" one monkey complained.
"Maybe we need more monkeys to help!" another suggested.
So the monkeys formed a line, like a long chain, hanging one after another, trying to pull the moon out of the water. They stretched their arms as far as they could, but no matter how hard they tried, the moon in the water remained out of reach.
Finally, an old monkey realized: "We're just playing with our own reflection. The moon is not in the water; it's in the sky."
The monkeys listened and felt a bit ashamed. They realized they had made a mistake, simply because they saw the reflection and thought the moon had fallen into the water.
From then on, the monkeys learned to observe the world more carefully and did not easily believe what they saw with their eyes.
